I started exercising when I was ten years old. My mom bought a treadmill, and I immediately began using it every day. I did sit-ups and pushups every morning before school because my dad told me it would prepare me for lifting weights when I got older.

I also started modifying my diet. I didn’t have the knowledge to eat correctly, and it showed in my diet, which consisted mainly in eating as little as possible. Even when I was extremely hungry, I refrained because I thought that I would benefit by getting a better physique. Over time, I became unusually obsessed, suffered psychological consequences, and was prescribed Prozac as a means of dealing with my “obsessive compulsive behavior.” Luckily, my mom decided not to fill the prescription. As time passed, I maintained my passion for exercise and nutrition, and I gradually learned proper nutrition.

Since then, I’ve always been involved in some form of fitness. When I was eleven years-old, I started Tae Kwon Do, in which I took part for about three years. I competed in ten sparring tournaments and won eight first-place medals and two third-place ones. To this day, I’ve never trained as hard as I did for sparring tournaments. I eventually gained my black belt, but soon after stopped attending classes.

I stopped Tae Kwon Do right around the time I started playing football. My first year was my sophomore year in high school. My coach always liked my work ethic in the weight room, so he started me both ways and on special teams almost every game. After watching me frequently give teammates lifting advice, my coach asked me to write a lifting program for the junior class. I had a reputation for being knowledgeable about weight training and diet. I stopped playing football halfway through my senior year, shortly after receiving a few concussions.

I went on to play baseball for one last year during the spring, but quit halfway through the season (after eight years of playing) because I wanted to spend more time lifting weights.

I never played sports in college because I wanted to focus on school and on training myself. I did spend most of my personal time, however, studying different training methods and applying lifting and diet techniques to myself. Until I first worked at FT, I never seriously considered becoming a personal trainer, even though I naturally helped friends and family pursue good nutrition and resistance training. Once I got past my shyness and anxiety toward training paying clients, I realized that I had found my true passion. I’m currently pursing an ACE certification. Immediately upon receiving this, I’ll begin studying to become a certified nutritionist.
